The visuals go to the motor area and make the visual-motor repertoire. Incoming visuals of other people are switched against that motor repertoire, so the brain can simulate and test what it would mean if we ourselves performed it. That is the human mirror neuron system, online.

The human mirror neuron system still takes the incoming visuals of others and switches them against internal emotional episodic information, and against context: what those actions mean, the contours of that social context, how it is categorised, how it feels, and the decision that follows. Processing how it feels, in the orbital frontal cortex, causes the right inferior frontal gyrus to stop people from approaching if the look is not apparent. Genetically, the looks people give and receive in ordinary public space are not the looks that compel someone to come over and talk. They are the opposite.

What these glasses do is create the translation that does not activate the right hemisphere, or the right-hemispheric cognitive inhibitory network, which suppresses the limbic brain and the basal ganglia areas necessary for approaching, so that people avoid instead. These glasses prevent that activity and sustain the look his brain treats as contact. That is the human mirror-neuron language that has to be activated to turn on his action-preparation network, his empathy network, and his mentalizer network, so he can prepare to take the action, take the action to approach, and feel motivated and compelled to come over and speak.

At the same time they teach the visual-motor repertoire his actual sensorium, and how he sees the world in that same social event. That is the other half of the population. Useful with a son, a husband, a brother, a father, male colleagues, bosses, or a man passed in the street. The glasses translate those aspects of his behaviour and of his social language into awareness, through the same sensorium his visual-motor repertoire is built from, the repertoire his human mirror neuron system and default mode network then use to make inferences about everyone else.

For the majority of women, looking at the majority of single heterosexual men, this is the gaze that brings those approach networks online. Bibliography 306: direct gaze with a real person elicited more left-hemisphere activation, indicative of approach motivation. Averted gaze elicited more right-hemisphere activation, indicative of avoidance motivation. Bibliography 91: the same direct gaze, and the miss of it, runs from boys with balls, through school, to the street. Clothes, makeup, and surgery do not turn that network on. This look does. He may still wrestle with what to say. The circuitry that stirs the approach is what these glasses are for.

More of this is in the audiobooks and in the bridge books. A sample is on the site. Audiobook Two is being finished for the site this week.
